was founded in the mid-1980s following the police announcement that 11 women were victims of a serial killer in South Los Angeles, by anti-racist, anti-poverty and women’s rights campaigner Margaret Prescod.
The Coalition campaigns to press the police and city officials to prioritize the murders, for the media not to trivialize and malign the victims, and to draw attention to the general lack of resources in and the neglect of South LA and similar communities.
They have organized protests, held press conferences, done community outreach campaigns, and more. Some of their work is reflected in the film “Tales of the Grim Sleeper."
